The Senior Section of the club caters for athletes of all abilities. During our track sessions on Wednesday evenings at Withdean Stadium, we have training groups geared to the specific requirements of individual athletes. They are:

  • a beginners group consisting of people who have done no, or little, running for many years and now want to get into it either for basic fitness, enjoyment or to improve on their performances
  • a middle-distance group who concentrate on 800m and 1500m during the track season and 3k upwards during the cross-country season
  • a sprint group who want to compete in 100m and 200m events, and who devote the summer to race preparation and racing, and the winter to conditioning and improving technique
  • a group – the largest of all – of both men and women who want to concentrate on longer distances from 5k up to the marathon. Their sessions are usually speed based and cover a distance of approximately 5k broken down into various reps.

Our other main training sessions are a hill-based session on Monday evenings and a long steady run of about 6-9 miles on Thursday evenings. Athletes also sometimes organise training in small groups.

You can find further details of all training sessions on the Training page.
