Quote:
Big Cow would like to bring to your attention our running of the inaugural National Team Championships on 19th September 2010.

We wanted to develop a team event where Clubs could enter teams whilst encouraging all Club members to take part, not just their elite racers. The challenge was to come up with a format that didn’t just revolve around the top half dozen guys from each club.

With this in mind we’ve structured the event so that a 52 year old lady could be as valuable to a team as their top 22 year old male.

A team consists of 8 entrants from the same club, with the best 6 point scorers from the team counting. Racing over the Sprint distances of 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run points will be scored in age group by sex. 1 point is awarded to the age group winner, 2 for 2nd place, 3 for 3rd and so on. Taking the 6 lowest scoring finishers in the team will give the team total. The team with the lowest total points will win the event and the £1,000 prize.

For example :

Sue finishes 3rd in the Female 30-34 age group and scores 3 points.

Steve finishes 15th in the Male 25 – 29 age group and scores 15 points.

Paul finishes 1st in the Male 60-64 age group and scores 1 point.

Rachel finishes 25th in the Female 25-29 age group and scores 25 points.

And so on …

Taking the lowest scoring 6 finishers and totalling their points gives the final score.

As you will see, picking a team with the best potential finishers in their age groups and by sex would see quite a cross section of age and sex. This hopefully encourages Club members who might not otherwise have an opportunity of representing their clubs in a Championship event.

We already have a number of Clubs who have confirmed entry of between 2 and 5 teams, so whilst entries at this stage may appear relatively low, we are very hopeful that this race is going to be a success and grow year on year into one of triathlon’s “must do” events.

If you would like any further information or have any questions please email me at nigew62@hotmail.com or reply to this message and we’ll (Michelle or Nigel) will be pleased to help.

Many thanks,
Michelle Callaghan

Potentially a yes from me too. Will give me a chance to spend one of the race entry vouchers from big cow I got last weekend. If someone gave me a lift up then I'd definitely be up for it.

Bob's a lurker! He knows everything that goes on on this forum. Twisted Evil

There's a genius plan forming in my head. Do the H25 TT Saturday, take over my mate Vince's flat in Enfield Saturday night, then race the the Big Cow Sprint Sunday... Wonder what coach will say to that. Shocked Confused

I had H25/8 pencilled in too. If it's an afternoon race I would be tempted to stay in a Travelodge near MK afterwards

Have checked with coach - he approves. End of season = go and have some fun! he says. Liking the approach. Very Happy

Anyway, so we need to get 6 people to make a team.
From this thread we have Anita, Nigel, Chris, and me. Not sure if your post meant you're interested, Malcolm, Colin? Rachel is doing New Forrest. I'll work on getting Bob in at swimming tonight. Come on people! Laughing

I'm flattered to be considered...especially on current form....and would have liked to do this but..

I may well be racing in the round Norfolk running relay that weekend so probably cant fit it in...

Looks a good idea though.

The way I read it, we need 8 to enter a team, the best 6 of which score.
I cannot tell if the other 2 have to finish to make the team eligible to score or if it's like a TTT where eg 8 start but as long as 6 finish, the team has a time.

You're right, Nigel. Didn't read it properly. That makes it harder to get enough people. Bit silly though that you need 8 if only 6 can score anyway.

Yes, maybe something we need to look at much earlier in the season if they are doing it again next year so everyone can book it in!

Maybe it should be the grand finale to our club series (not that I do any of those - oops!)
